DFI day 1

What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?
- I started the day with a zero sum knowledge of Manaiakalani and its informing kaupapa.  I now have a accessible memory of the origins of this important collaborative learning story and some of the underpinning values, philosophy and the teaching and learning practices.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?  'Take homes' for me include a deeper understanding of the need to organise by Drive folders and how to achieve this, along with the importance of the separation of my personal ME and my professional ME with regarding to filing and organizing material

What did I learn that could be used with my learners?  The 3 most useful student relevant tips I gain have been groups, groups and groups.  Also I really like the idea of 'rolling' Docs that are added too.... just like a 'real' book.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?  I guess it comes down to clearer demarcations within my work and personal Drives.

Thanks to the facilitators for a great day. - Adi

  1. Tēnā koe Aidi, great to be learning with you in this space. I agree with your 'groups' comment, me he pā harakeke - like the flax plant. Looking forward to collaborating with you. How could we collaborate on public speaking through blogs? Especially when we maybe miss opportunities to attend public speaking events as kura or communities?

  2. Kia ora Adi,

Thank you for coming to DFI day 1. I'm glad you enjoyed the day. Google groups are a fantastic way to communicate easily with a group of people. Your class at Waitohu are already set up as a Google group for you, I'll show you when we catch up next, where to find them. Separating personal and professional accounts makes life much simpler once you've done it, good luck!

  3. Kiaora Adi,

I agree about the groups and set one up for our staff this week and have been using it a lot. Organising the drive is a chore at the best of times but I now have a system which works for me. I now could probably do with making it more efficient though.

    See you tomorrow,
    Joanna
